Indeed, the worst thing that could happen to the show would be for her to surrender to happiness. She is on good terms with her alienation and her distancing irony, and not ready to let them go. In helping others, you will not be surprised to learn, these women help themselves.Īnd while this is true also of “Wonderfalls,” what raises it above those other shows is that its main character, the spectacularly underachieving Jaye Tyler (Caroline Dhavernas), who has a degree in philosophy from Brown, works in a Niagara Falls souvenir store and lives in a trailer park, does not welcome the improvements. “Tru Calling,” “Dead Like Me” and most similarly “Joan of Arcadia” are its chronological foremothers, though not its inspiration, and I would include the yenta comedy “Miss Match” (lately missing itself, sadly) as a close cousin.

In 2004, Partridge contributed the song "I Wonder Why the Wonderfalls" as the theme music to the short-lived TV drama Wonderfalls.“Wonderfalls” comes late in a TV year that offered a plethora of angry young women called upon by supernatural forces to help strangers who do not always know they’re in trouble. Partridge also served initially as the producer for the English band Blur during the recording of Modern Life Is Rubbish, before creative differences with the band led to his replacement by Stephen Street. He has collaborated (as performer, writer or producer) with numerous artists: a partial list includes Peter Blegvad, Mitch Friedman, John Greaves, The Lilac Time, Thomas Dolby, Duffy, Joan Armatrading, David Yazbek, Voice of the Beehive, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Terry Hall, Cathy Dennis and Harold Budd. Volumes 7-8 of Fuzzy Warbles are scheduled for release in 2006.

In addition to his work with XTC, Partridge has released demos of his songs under his own name in the Fuzzy Warbles album series under his APE House Record label. For example, the back cover of Rag and Bone Buffet took shape after Partridge requested "lots of rusty junk" and proceeded to create a mockup of the band members with it. Most of XTC's album cover art is predicated on ideas conceived by him. Partridge also serves as the band's de facto art director. He lives in Swindon, Wiltshire, where he was raised.Īs XTC gained popularity, they had been on tour for the bulk of a five-year period ending in 1982 when Partridge, suffering from stress-related illnesses reportedly brought about by his wife throwing out his supply of valium, forced the band to stop touring.
